Welcome to Listen To Your Mother Vancouver!

by andreap on November 17, 2015

Eran and Andrea here! And we’re just starting to get the ball rolling on the 2016 Season of Listen to Your Mother here in Vancouver! This is us:

IMG_2444And yeah, we’re wearing toques because winter is starting to descend here in Canada and it’s just about time to break out the hot chocolate and hit the ski slopes. We’re a little jealous of anyone living in a warmer climate right now! But despite the weather, we are so extremely excited to be a part of the Listen to Your Mother 2016 season and to be bringing Listen to Your Mother to Canada for the very first time.

And since this is the first Canadian production of LTYM a lot of you are probably wondering what this event we’re geeking out about actually is. We’ll tell you so you can start to get excited too! Listen to Your Mother is a live stage production that started five years ago when Founder and blogger, Ann Imig, took to  the stage to “Give Motherhood a Microphone.” The blogosphere came to life when creative, passionate women brought their best writing about motherhood to a live event. Listen to Your Mother was born and went on to become a national Mother’s Day phenomenon. LTYM is in its sixth national season this year and for the very first time the show is coming to Vancouver, where we’ll be handing over the microphone to local writers, moms, artists, and anyone who has a story focused on motherhood to share. To learn more about LTYM check out the National LTYM website and the 2016 LTYM Announcement video.

We’re in the early phase of event organization and will have tons of news and details to share with you in upcoming days, but for now we want to tell you about who we are as the LTYM producer/directors.

Eran Sudds and Andrea Paterson met very recently through a shared involvement with Pacific Post Partum Support Society. We both survived postpartum depression and have been busy trying to give something back to the organization that saved us. We worked together, with a large batch of other volunteers, on a photography fundraiser for PPPSS that Eran organized, and that was our very first collaboration. That event happened on Saturday, so let’s say that our partnership is practically an infant. But an infant that’s mature for it’s age because, as we continue to discover, we’re basically the same person. Beyond similar postpartum experiences, we share degrees in literature, experience in theater, a love for knitting, crocheting, and crafts, and (bizarrely) involvement in completely unrelated a capella vocal groups. We have both, against the odds, participated in different productions of the Vagina Monologues. We  have one son each (less than a year apart), and a shared desire to make a difference for new moms everywhere who are facing the challenges, scary moments, intense joys, and self-doubt that come along with becoming a parent. We’re full of hope and excitement for our LTYM show and can’t wait to share more details with you. We’re also looking forward to experiencing more mind bending synchronicity as we discover where else our lives overlap!

While you wait for big announcements from us be sure to follow LTYM on Facebook and Twitter to get all the updates from the National team. Stay tuned for our venue and show date announcement. It’s coming soon!
