I wanted to begin by finding the right words to describe the experience of being a part of Listen To Your Mother. I wanted to define it but that is impossible because it’s something different for each person who produces, directs, and performs. It’s different for every person who sits in the audience or watches the performances online.
And that is the beauty of it.
Just as there is no single way to describe motherhood, there is no single way to describe the power in writing, reading and listening to the stories that come from it.
I can only say that storytelling has the potential to change us all – to empower us, to help us understand each other, to unite us.
The stories we shared in 2013 did all of that and it’s time to begin again.
If you have a story about motherhood to share, please send it to us at firstname.lastname@example.org and do the following:
1. Make sure the piece is no more than 4 to 6 minutes in length when read aloud.
2. Put the title of the piece and your name in the subject line of the email.
3. Attach the submission as a Word document with the title of the piece and your name on the first page.
We will be accepting submissions from now through February 3, 2014.
The three of us will then take some time to revel in the words and stories before we sit down and decide who we will contact to audition.
Please note: Auditions will be held on March 8, 2014 and March 9, 2014 and the date of the show is May 8, 2014.
We all have a story. We hope you’ll share yours with us.by
