Audition Season for Listen to Your Mother 2017 Has Begun!

January 17, 2017

Your story could be an essential part of this year’s Listen To Your Mother celebration of mothering by giving a voice to motherhood — in all of its complexity, diversity, and humor. If you have a story longing to be heard about your mother, your own view as a mother, or about a mother-figure in your life — write it down and share with us! Southwest Michigan is currently accepting written submissions via email to ltymswmichigan (@) gmail (.) com. Please make sure your piece is edited to the best of your ability and that it does not exceed FIVE MINUTES read aloud (we suggest you record yourself reading it so you can get a time). Please be sure to write SUBMISSION in the subject of your email. You will be contacted soon when try-out/audition signups are made available for March!     Audition process and requirements vary by city, and some cities have not yet made […]

Gratitude: LTYM SWMichigan 2016 Season Wrap-Up

May 23, 2016

Our Listen to Your Mother Southwest Michigan Season Wrap-up post is always the hardest one for me to write. I put it off, and put it off, I think because it always feels so final. There’s a little relief that comes with our post season, of course. Those last few weeks before showtime are positively insane with worry and uncertainty and expectation and work. And then showtime comes and the payoffs are overwhelming and so deeply worthwhile. Like this one…. Handing a check from our LISTEN TO YOUR MOTHER: Southwest Michigan 2016 show to a deserving charity partner like Emergency Shelter Services, Inc. is one of the great privileges of producing this incredible international show locally. From our ticket proceeds, Beth and I decided to surpass the minimum required and MATCH what ESS collected in the lobby the night of our show ($440, thanks to our generous audience!) for a grand total of $880 raised toward helping […]

Meet the LTYM SWMichigan 2016 Cast: Second Edition

April 25, 2016

We’re excited for you to meet the rest of the LTYM SWMichigan 2016 cast, but first we’d like to acknowledge that last week was a terribly difficult week in southwest Michigan. In light of the recent news out of St. Joseph of local sponsor, 98.3 The Coast’s morning show personality Denise Bohn’s tragic death, it is even more poignant that a portion of our ticket proceeds will benefit Emergency Shelter Services, Inc. this season. Our hearts go out to her children, to the families, and to the countless friends, fans and coworkers impacted by this tragedy. Domestic violence is just one of the many reasons women and families find themselves homeless, and we hope to make a difference with our show as we celebrate and give voice to that which was so clearly most important in Denise’s life: her children and her role as a mother.   We had an incredible rehearsal a week ago Saturday. We did some […]

April 10, 2016

In no particular order, I’d like to introduce you to the first batch of our amazing LTYM: SWMichigan 2016 cast. These beautiful people are going to knock your socks off. I’m joining them to read this year, so I’m going to try and live up to the bar they’ve set, which is indeed high. My co-director, Beth Haire-Lewis, is emceeing for us once again! Returning for our second local season, with a very funny story about the importance of safety while mothering teenaged football players, is: CHRISTINE SHERENE is the Parent Coordinator for the Readiness Center Preschool. She is the wife of Mr. Charles E. Sherene Sr., Chief of Police of the village of Eau Claire, Michigan. Christine is the mother of three boys and a girl. She is a licensed missionary at Greater Community Christian Fellowship C.O.G.I.C. and the host of the gospel music radio broadcast “Morning Manna” on Power 105.3 FM. Christine enjoys […]
