They came, they spoke, we listened and we were all forever changed by it all. We are officially declaring Listen To Your Mother San Francisco 2013 a smashing success.
Twelve extraordinary women took the stage and shared a piece of their heart in celebration of Mother’s Day. We could not be more grateful for their bravery and for trusting us with their stories. Each and every one of our cast members was a delight and watching them form friendships with each other filled our hearts.
Our sincere appreciation to Kim Tracy Prince and Lisa Truong from Help A Mother Out for their support of Listen To Your Mother. Visit their website to learn more about all the good they are doing in the Bay Area and beyond.
Cristina Ruddin and the staff of the San Francisco Jewish Community Center were always a pleasure and made sure no detail was overlooked and show night was a breeze.
We are grateful to our husbands, Jeetil Patel and Dwight Paulsey as well as our kids: Macy, Avery, Anders, Reisa and Amelia for their enthusiasm and invaluable front of the house organization.
Our thanks also go out to LTYM 2012 cast members Rhea St. Julien and Estelle Hayes for their help greeting audience members and calming cast nerves. Joy Latimer, also from the 2012 cast, brought her special brand of magic and served as our stage manager, holding hands and taking deep breaths with cast members right before they took the stage.
Also deserving of our deepest appreciation for her creative input, help with programs and signage, photographic talents and enduring support is Kim Thompson Steel, co-director and co-producer of LTYM SF 2012. She continues to believe in the Listen To Your Mother movement and brought a sense of calm to our production this year.
Finally, we are eternally grateful to Ann Imig, one woman with incredible vision. Because of her grace and graciousness, 300 people across the country were able to tell stories that touched hearts. Thank you Ann for trusting us with your vision and gifting us with the opportunity to bring LTYM to San Francisco.
As you may know, San Francisco producers/directors Kari and Kirsten are sisters. Shortly after we’d finished auditions, announced our cast and started diving into the details of planning the show, our Mom had a stroke while we were all together at a family event; and we were thrust into another phase of Motherhood… as children Mothering our Mother, and as a Mother being Mothered by her children. As we’ve started on this journey with our Mom into this new and different territory, in many ways – Listen to Your Mother took on deeper meaning to both of us. We’ve all had to change our roles and we are listening and learning, growing and healing as we chart our course. It meant so much to us that our mother was able to attend the show.
Until next year…
