The Society for the Protection and Care of Children: Healing the Past, and Nurturing the Future.

May 1, 2017

Listen To Your Mother: Rochester is so pleased to be raising money for The Society for the Protection and Care of Children. Less than 150 years ago there were no laws to protect children and child abuse was widely ignored. Until a little girl named Mary Ellen’s horrific abuse ignited a movement by neighbors who joined together to save her. Their care and commitment resulted in her rescue and she came to live in Rochester, NY where she lived out a long, safe and happy life. Not only did this group of amazing people rescue Mary Ellen but they spurred the creation of Societies for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children (SPCC) across the country and world. Rochester’s SPCC was the first and remains today as the oldest non-profit agency in the nation focused on child abuse prevention. Today, The children that SPCC works with are impacted by inconceivable trauma, violence, poverty and […]

Microphone Sponsor: Karen Craft Photography & Graphics

April 28, 2017

If there is one thing that we can say about our Listen to Your Mother partner Karen Craft it’s that she oozes creativity. This is Karen’s third season as a Microphone Sponsor for our LTYM Rochester show and we’re beyond grateful for her effort, talent and support. And if we could tell you just a few more things, it’s that she is a force of nature… which is funny because she takes beautiful photographs of nature!  She is a master of many accents, including an uncanny, transatlantic accent (think black-and-white movies from the 40s)… which is funny because she takes gorgeous images with black-and-white-film. She also directs an improv and sketch comedy group in our city called Polite Ink… which is funny because, well because she’s so funny! Karen REALLY doesn’t like to talk about herself and finds it REALLY, REALLY hard to take a complement. So instead of asking Karen to dish, this year […]

Welcome back, Nicole and Sarah, ASL Interpreters for LTYM Rochester!

April 23, 2017

The LTYM: Rochester community is so fortunate to have two, seasoned ASL Interpreters working with our cast this season. Both full-time staff interpreters at RIT/NTID’s Department of Access Services, Nicole Crouse-Dickerson and Sarah Schneckenburger are also busy moms with full hands, which they are graciously loaning us on May 13th. Both Nicole and Sarah were excited about the LTYM videos they’d seen on YouTube, and have extended their services to our deaf audience as official sponsors. We are so grateful that they are on board! Nicole Kraus-Dickerson, NIC-MNicole grew up in small village in northern central New York so when asked she reports she is from Syracuse, because who the hell knows where Central Square might be located? She has worked at RIT as a staff sign language interpreter for 16 years and has no intention of ever leaving. When not working Nicole enjoys spending time with her husband and two young children […]
