2017, Here We Come!

by stephaniejankowski on January 3, 2017

Ladies and gents, bookmark this bad boy because it’s chock-full of all things Listen to Your Mother Pittsburgh 2017! Our ducks are in a row, we’re ready to roll, and other clichés that mean LET’S DO THIS!

LTYM Pittsburgh 2017 is officially underway.

First things first: if you’ve never laid eyes on this page before today, allow us to introduce you to the show. It’s a live, approximately 2-hour performance consisting of between 10-13 original pieces about motherhood. However, you do NOT have to be a mother–or even a woman–to be a part of this show. You just need a story and a voice; we provide the microphone. Listen to Your Mother‘s theme is motherhood and everything it encompasses: we’re talking stories about mama chickens, postpartum depression, and your 80-year-old mother naked on a pool noodle at her boyfriend’s mansion.

Oh yes we did.

LTYM Pittsburgh is motherhood in all its good, bad, hilarious and everything in between glory. Come, tell us your story, won’t you?

January 28 & 29
February 11 & 12

A few things to note about your audition piece:

  • It does not need to be memorized
  • It should be a final/semi-final draft, not a work in progress (we will not edit your writing for content)
  • It should be 5 minutes or less
  • It should be original (like, written by you. It’s okay if it has been published or read elsewhere)

We are so excited to work with Beverly’s Birthdays this year. Beverly’s Birthdays provides birthday parties for homeless children in the Pittsburgh area. We’ll be writing about this incredible charity much more in the near future, but for now, just imagine the smile on a kiddo’s face when she is presented her very first birthday cake. SWOON.

This year’s performance is on Friday, May 12, 2017. We’ve chosen Shady Side Academy’s Hillman Center for Performing Arts for a few different reasons. First, we like the idea of moving the venue each year to show off more of our great city (our inaugural year was at the Elsie Hillman Auditorium at the Kaufmann Center Hill House, and last year found us at Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh – Lecture Hall). Second, the Hillman Center is located on Shady Side Academy’s Senior School’s beautiful campus in Fox Chapel, only 20 minutes from Pittsburgh’s Cultural District, which makes it super accessible. Third, as educators who are passionate about our show, we’re all about supporting a school that is so committed to helping students pursue futures in the performing arts through an internship program.

Okay, stop reading this and go write your story. If you need inspiration, why not binge watch our past seasons right here? Remember: your story is worth telling and Pittsburgh is ready to hear it.

Write on,

Steph & Jen
