by stephaniejankowski on April 28, 2016

A familiar face on television, Amanda’s recent Today Show segments make her our “famous friend” and we’re hoping to ride her coattails as long as she’ll let us, though her impressive resumé is second to her kind heart and wicked sense of humor.

Crazy about usAmanda Mushro is a Lifestyle/Mom personality and the writer behind the blogs and Questionable Choices in Parenting. Her life hacks and parenting tips have been featured on The Today Show, The Rachael Ray Show, The Chew, and Great Day Washington. She is a TODAY Show Parenting Team contributor and has a life hacks webseries on TLC. Her writing can be found on, TLC, Romper, Scary Mommy and The Huffington Post and has essays featured the eight anthologies. Amanda lives in Maryland with her husband and two children.

Q: Who IS Amanda?
A: Candy Land loser, human tissue, yoga pants enthusiast, recovering eyebrow over-tweezer, celebrity gossip junkie, dragon slayer, princess dress up stylist, beach bum, finder of favorite jammies, sidewalk chalk artist, girls night out planner, proud daughter, smitten wife, and a lucky, lucky Mama.

Q: How did you discover LTYM?
A: Some of my favorite bloggers have been cast members, and after watching the performances online I was laughing or crying or both. I loved everything about Listen To Your Mother and wanted to be a part of the show. So when I heard about the auditions through a blogger community I belong to, I emailed right away for an audition and crossed my fingers that somehow I would be lucky enough to be chosen for the DC cast! After being in the DC show I knew I needed to be part of the show and was lucky enough to join Stephanie and Jennifer as the Pittsburgh team.

Amanda headshotQ: Why did you start writing your blog?
A: When I was planning our family Christmas card a few years ago, I toyed with the idea of adding a little note about what each member of our family had been up to that year. Quickly I could rattle off dozens of activities, milestones, and funny stories to share about my son and daughter. My husband had numerous achievements with his career and hobbies that he thoroughly enjoyed. Then I thought about myself and I had nothing to say. Should I write that there are days when I actually cannot remember the last time I showered?  How about how I can sing any theme song from a Disney Junior show? Is that Christmas card worthy? Would my great aunt want to know that I could nurse a baby, kick a soccer ball, and answer the phone all at the same time? While I LOVE being a mom and staying at home with my kids, I felt like I had nothing for myself. So I started a blog, just for me, where I could write about the funny stories of our day- to-day life. In the past three years, my blog has grown into an amazing career that I never expected. All those late nights with my babies helped me prepare for all the late nights I’d be working on the opportunities that blog has brought me. It was on the job training!

Q: What do you wish most for your children?
A: That they stop growing, stay this age forever, and that they never, ever leave me. However, I have a feeling my children will NOT listen to their mother and do all of these things. So my greatest wish for them is that whatever path in life they take, they find themselves immensely happy, brave when they need to be, and always in awe of their blessings. It would also be nice if they took care of their mother in her old age by making sure I have fresh manicures, not walking around with stray whiskers on my chin, and from time to time, take me to a casino to play slots.
