Listen To Your Mother: Pittsburgh Supports the Women’s Center & Shelter of Greater Pittsburgh

by jenniferhicks on March 3, 2015

We are incredibly proud that Listen To Your Mother: Pittsburgh will be donating ten percent of all ticket proceeds to support the Women’s Center & Shelter of Greater Pittsburgh.

There are few things in life more important than being safe. Throughout my children’s lives, I’ve always told them that my Number One Job is to keep them safe. For some mothers, keeping their children safe means they have to flee an abusive situation at the hands of their partner. These women need help, support, and guidance to keep themselves and their children out of harm’s way.

Enter the Women’s Center & Shelter of Greater Pittsburgh.

For more than forty years, Women’s Center & Shelter of Greater Pittsburgh (WC&S) has been working to advance the safety and wellbeing of victims of intimate partner violence and prevent and respond to intimate partner violence through social change.

Nearly 7,000 individuals are helped each year through the important programs WC&S offers, including:

  • 24-Hour Emergency Shelter
  • 24-Hour Hotline
  • Children’s Program
  • Empowerment Center (Support Groups)
  • Legal Advocacy
  • Medical Advocacy
  • Civil Law Project
  • Education
  • MEN/S Group (Men Embracing Non-Violence & Safety).

Through the programs listed, WC&S provides service, activities, and interactions that focus on helping children and adults recover from the damaging effects of interpersonal drama and abuse. Recognizing that individuals who are provided with trust, support, advocacy, resources and information are in a better position to determine what is best for them, WC&S empowers and respects women while working to educate the community and change systems in ways that will end intimate partner violence.

The Women’s Center & Shelter of Greater Pittsburgh provides high quality, confidential programs where justice, autonomy, restoration and safety are the priority.

PrintIf you or someone you know is the victim of intimate partner violence and you’re in need of help, you can call the 24-Hour Hotline at 412.687.8005.
