Thinking of Auditioning for Listen to Your Mother Pittsburgh?

by amandamushro on January 13, 2015

Last week we started shouting from the rooftops that we are officially scheduling auditions for the first ever Listen to Your Mother Pittsburgh. If you have any questions about the show or the auditions, hopefully we can answer them here and encourage you to take the leap and audition!

You do not need to memorize your story

Don’t waste time memorizing your essay because these are readings not monologues. As long as you are familiar enough with your material to look up from the page and engage with your audience, you will be fine! We just want to feel like you are telling us a story as opposed to reading from a script.

We want all types of stories about motherhood

Your reading MUST be about MOTHERHOOD. Your experience as a mother…your experience with your mother…your personal thoughts on being a mother or mother figure… your journey to become a mother…your reasons to NOT become a mother. The good, bad, ugly, and the magical. All of it!  Really anything goes as long as Motherhood is the star.

You don’t have to be a mother or even a woman to be in this show

You just need to tell us a motherhood story. This means you, husbands, daughters, sons, nieces, nephews, and grandkids!

Keep it to five minutes and under

With only 90 minutes of stage time, we do have to limit the length of each reading. We are looking for essays that take approximately five minutes to read aloud. Try to make edits before you audition. As much as we may LOVE your 15-minute reading, we probably won’t have time to work with you on cutting it down to a manageable length.

There is no reason to be nervous

There is no need to be nervous about your audition! Listen to Your Mother is about storytelling, and the stories that we select will be the ones that best fit together as a cohesive show and tell a variety of stories about motherhood.

Comfortable and casual is the way to go

No need for prom dresses and formal wear here! On the day of your audition, please come in comfortable and casual clothes.

Auditions are closed and private.

When you audition, it will just be the three of us (Amanda, Jennifer, and Stephanie) and you. Much like Vegas, what happens in the LTYM audition room stays in the audition room.  Your words are safe with us.
