You might have read Kathy Radigan’s blog My Dishwasher’s Possessed, or seen her viral posts on Scary Mommy or The Huffington Post. Well, we are awfully glad Kathy graced us with her presence and her story at this year’s LTYM NYC auditions. Read on and you’ll see what we mean…
What makes you feel accomplished?
As a writer and blogger, I feel accomplished when I have a piece that resonates with just one person. Especially if that’s someone I have never met.
Since I started the crazy journey of sharing parts of my life as mom to three, wife to one, and the owner of a possessed kitchen appliance, I can never get over how a story about my crazy life can connect me to someone I have never met. It’s an amazing feeling.
But what makes me feel accomplished as a person is when all three of my kids are not killing each other, my husband and I can manage to have a conversation without interruption, and I can see the floor of my laundry room. I have set the bar sort of low.
How would her friends describe her?
I never know how to answer this type of question because I’m not really sure how people see me, or, more accurately, what part of myself I’m letting them see.
Is it the mom of a daughter with significant special needs, who watches her daughter face such huge challenges every day? Or the mom of a son who has dyslexia, who has proven all the skeptics wrong, and is getting ready to graduate high school and go on to college? Or the mom of a 11-year-old who has ADHD and can drive me insane and crack me up all at the same time?
Maybe it’s the woman who is happily married to her husband for 24 years, and makes jokes about their insane but very happy life together?
Or is it the woman who is never sure if she can keep all the balls of her life up in the air and chooses to laugh rather than cry over it? I never really know what part of me is going to show up for a cup of coffee and a chat with a friend.
I hope the people in my life see a kind, frazzled woman who is doing her best for her family each day and enjoys to laugh, a lot.
What word best describes you?
What are you most thankful for?
I know this is the corniest of answers, and so expected of a mother of three, but I am the most thankful for the family my husband and I have created. The fact that our children know they are loved and that not a day goes by where we are all laughing… that is the most precious gift I have.
