Meet the cast!

December 6, 2016

In 2011, I auditioned for a show that had caught wind on the internet: Listen To Your Mother. Its mission was clear as a bell, to bring communities together through sharing our stories and seeing just how much more alike we are than different.  That was my take, but the formal statement is this: The mission of each LISTEN TO YOUR MOTHER production is to take the audience on a well-crafted journey that celebrates and validates mothering through giving voice to motherhood–in all of its complexity, diversity, and humor–in the form of original readings performed live on-stage by their authors. By 2016, LISTEN TO YOUR MOTHER had hosted over 150 live shows in 54 cities. We have 2000 videos from those shows on our YouTube channel. To see them is to witness powerful voices that pull you into lives other than your own. LISTEN TO YOUR MOTHER aims to support motherhood creatively through artistic expression, and also […]

We Proudly Announce the Listen To Your Mother Milwaukee Videos!

July 18, 2016

This past May,  LISTEN TO YOUR MOTHER Milwaukee held its 4th annual LTYMshow at Alverno College’s Pitman Theatre. Our 11 storytellers came together, from once entering as strangers on a morning of auditions, to a cast whose stories could not have been more seamless had we written them together. This thread of our narrative illuminates the role of motherhood and its importance. Every year, LTYM MKE stands back amazed at how our cast’s stories flow from one to the next. It astounds, still, after almost five years of bringing LTYM to Milwaukee. Milwaukee is 1 of 41 cities hosting a LISTEN TO YOUR MOTHER show, and we get chills when we think how in 41 other cities, this same magical bond happens. We are proud to share the 2016 LISTEN TO YOUR MOTHER videos, which are now live on LTYM’s YouTube channel. We’ll be sharing their individual videos this week on our FB […]

LTYM Milwaukee Thanks Its Sponsors!

May 7, 2016

photo courtesy of Orphonic Multimedia LISTEN TO YOUR MOTHER Milwaukee celebrated its 4th annual LTYM show last week, Sunday. We presented 11 amazing local storytellers that took us through the journey that is motherhood. They shared stories of faith, hilarity, love, strength, they spoke of the poignant heart soaring moments and they trusted us with their stories of challenge and heart ache. Our production team was so proud to play a part in creating the opportunity for these voices to be heard. It takes six months of our year to prepare for our shows, they are a labor of love as well as a belief in the way that storytelling unites us. Jennifer Gaskell, Rochelle Fritsch, and I work together to bring LTYM to Milwaukee, but it takes more than just the three of us to bring our show to the stage. Our stories happen, because our cast donates their time in rehearsals […]

Love Letter To Our 2016 LTYM Milwaukee Cast

May 2, 2016

photo credit Orphonic Multimedia As we stood together with our cast for our final bow on show day, I felt my pulse bound as we gripped each others’ hands, fingers intertwined. Our show, our cast, our stories, our audience, our city — brought together by the beauty of work accomplished with the love of community. When we first cast our shows, we look ahead knowing what awaits our new season. As producers, we’ve had three years now to believe in the magic of LISTEN TO YOUR MOTHER and it is impossible to not sound like mystic ladies of the mountain when we turn to our yet unbaptized cast and say, “You guys? YOU are not going to believe the feelings. It is like any life event where you go in already knowing it’s going to impact, but you don’t know where the experience will take you.” We know what they’ll see in the […]

He’s right, Milwaukee, we have an amazing show for you.
