It has been three weeks since a cast of 13 took the stage at the Rococo Theatre and brought the house down in front of a packed audience. Through tears and laughter, Lincoln, Nebraska was introduced to the amazing phenomenon known as Listen To Your Mother, and I know those in attendance will never be the same. Listen To Your Mother is truly an experience that changes a person forever, and I’m so excited that we got to experience a little piece of that magic.

Despite never participating in a LTYM event before, I knew the night was going to be amazing. Sharing stories is my most favorite thing in the world! Sharing stories about motherhood, in front of a live audience…well, that’s amazing beyond anything I could have ever dreamed.

I have so many people to thank for helping make our show a huge success. Thank you to the LTYM National team and Blogher, our national sponsor. Without this team, I would have been lost. They answered my questions, kept me on task (which is no easy feat, I assure you), and helped me bring this show to Lincoln in a fabulous way.

Thank you also to my people, the gals who gave up their weekend to help with auditions. The gals who lined up meals for my family when I was completely checked out and in the LTYM-zone the week of the event. Without their support and encouragement this show couldn’t have happened.

Thank you to Alleigh Riggs, our amazing emcee for the night who kept us entertained with her own stories throughout the night.

Thank you to all of you who came. You had no idea what you were in for, but you came anyway. You brought your friends, your parents, your husbands and you showed up for this amazing show. Only, you didn’t know it was going to be amazing. Maybe you knew one of the cast members or maybe you just heard about it, either way, you showed up and laughed at our jokes, cried at the sad parts and made sharing our stories in front of a live audience an incredible experience.

And, most importantly, thank you to my cast. This incredible tribe of humans  who auditioned and showed up for one of the greatest nights of my life. Armed with stories that broke hearts, inspired dreams, gave hope, made us laugh, and changed our view of motherhood, this crew took us to heights and depths we didn’t even know we had. And I’m forever grateful they chose to share their stories with us.

We were honored to donate 10% of our proceeds to Mourning Hope Grief Center. With so many of our lives being affected and touched by loss, we felt they were a perfect beneficiary!

LTYM: Lincoln Cause

April 12, 2016

I am so excited to announce that the beneficiary of our first Listen To Your Mother show in Lincoln is Mourning Hope Grief Center in Lincoln, Nebraska. As an organization, Listen To Your Mother desires to give back to our communities by donating at least 10% of our ticket sales to a local non-profit dedicated to improving the lives of women and children. According to their website: Mourning Hope is a grief support network for children, teens, young adults and their families who have experienced the serious illness or death of someone special to them. Support groups serve youth in kindergarten through young adults and their families. Mourning Hope is here to help when grieving the death of anyone significant in a child’s life — a parent, grandparent, sibling, aunt or uncle, or close friend. It is an honor to work with an organization that works so closely with the very essence of […]

Announcing the Cast of Lincoln’s First Annual Listen To Your Mother Show

March 7, 2016

A few months ago, I had this crazy idea to bring Listen To Your Mother to Lincoln. I sent in an application telling about how great our community is, how strong our stories are, and how I think I could pull a show like this together. And they felt the same way. So for the last few months, I’ve been telling you all about this event, with the hope that you all believe in this idea of capturing motherhood, from many different vantage points, and the value of having a place to share that story. And so I sent out an audition call and hoped that people would want to share their stories about motherhood. And they did. People signed up to share with me their beautiful, funny, tragic, and harrowing stories of motherhood. And now, I’m so excited to announce our cast! Along with myself, I can’t wait for you to hear […]

I want to hear your story!!

January 22, 2016

Get ready, Lincoln, AUDITIONS ARE COMING! It’s time to dust off your notebooks, stretch out your typing fingers, and get busy. I want to hear your story. I want to hear the good, the bad, the beautiful, the tragic, and the hilarious story that you may have. This is not a show for professional speakers/writers (though all levels of experience welcome). LTYM is about Motherhood and Motherhood is for EVERYONE. Your voice and story may be the one that reshapes someone’s perspective of life when our 2016 show hits the stage (and then is added to the LTYM YouTube channel). Your story is unique. Your story is needed. Your voice IS worthy and your words ARE good enough. Here’s what you need to know: 1. Each piece must fall between 3-5 minutes when read aloud. This is approximately 2 pages, but will vary widely depending on content and speaking style. (Practice reading for time.) […]
