Nina lives in Fredericksburg, Virginia with her husband and two daughters. Nina is a former special education teacher with a Master’s Degree in School Counseling who started a tutoring business from her home when her first daughter was born. Nina spends her days/evenings running her tutoring business, Parrish Learning Zone which now, six years later, offers kindergarten through college tutoring in all subject areas. She also spends her time teaching students; managing a team of 20-25 teachers; watching her youngest while her oldest is in school; running errands, and trying not to sweat the small stuff. She started writing education and parenting blog posts for her business page but loves to write personal essays in her free time.
Want to hear more? Here is a little Q&A:
LTYM: Who IS Nina?
Nina: Nina is a wife, mother, teacher, sister, friend, small business owner, and free-lance writer. Nina loves cooking without a recipe, traveling, staying up too late, coffee, dressing up too much for the occasion, learning new things and quiet time with a good book. She likes to go on adventures with her husband and kids and enjoys being an armchair therapist to friends who need someone to lend an understanding ear. She also loves spring weather, jogging, and dancing (badly). She is a dreamer who likes to annoy her husband by coming up with hundreds of new ideas each day.
LTYM: How did you discover LTYM?
Nina: I first discovered LTYM because I heard the show mentioned on BlogHer and saw some of the YouTube videos of previous cast members. I never considered auditioning until a friend of mine, who is also a writer, convinced me to try. We rode up together, and I drove receiving two toll violations and spilling a bottle of nail polish on my new dress right before the audition!
LTYM: If you could eat only one meal for the rest of your life what would it be?
Nina: I love spicy food and celebrating taco Tuesday but think that my love of tacos should not have to be confined to one weekday.
LTYM: What is one of your favorite things you’ve ever written?
Nina: This letter to my daughters is one of my favorite things that I have written recently.
LTYM: What do you wish most for your children?
Nina: I want them to be grounded and hardworking. I want them to know who they are and feel free to be themselves no matter what. I want them to be kind and know that they are loved.
