We’re back with another cast spotlight today… Get to know Tiffany Patterson!
LTYM: Who IS Tiffany?
Tiffany: My full name is Tiffany L Patterson (Brooke); not to be confused with my Sister in Law, Tiffanie Patterson. Yep, same name. In fact, we have a cousin in law named Tiffany also. I am a Stay At Home Mom to Lily (5) and Dylan (3) and a wife to a wonderful man, Jan. A former and future Elementary teacher (I am hoping to return to the classroom in the fall of 2014); I enjoy cooking, reading (children’s literature and adult fiction), and of course writing. I am a former singer and actress and I have been known to break into song and dance throughout the day in order to get my kids to do what I want them to do. A native Marylander who LOVES crabs, I have been known to be humorous (sarcastic) about everything. Lastly, I am passionate person who loves the arts, being crafty and finding a good bargain.
LTYM: Since you love a good bargain, what one item would you go crazy over if you found it at a thrift store?
Tiffany: Honestly, I am not entirely sure. I would have to say something Alice in Wonderland related. It’s not something that turns up in thrift stores frequently, so the novelty of that would be engaging. If it was a rare or unique item, I would snatch it up. I have a history with Alice in Wonderland. It was the first show I ever performed in. I was the Rose and and I had to sing a song. I was also Alice in the show in fifth grade. I love the movies, and the novel. The creativity (although probably drug induced) in the writing is amazingly wonderful to my senses. I love all of the characters and am always on the look out for interesting items.
LTYM: What is the craziest thing you remember saying to your children?
Tiffany: I said it last week to my son: “if you can’t pick up pencils and put them in a box then you are going to go to a special hospital for boys who can’t do simple things” His response? “Now?”
I also frequently say the word “poop” to them if they are in a sour mood. They instantaneously laugh.
LTYM: What is one of your favorite things you’ve ever written?
Tiffany: Follow Their Lead to the Brightest Star. I really liked this blog because it was from my heart. I felt the need to write about my dad, but I didn’t know how. I loved how this evolved but it took me a long time to write (1 1/2 years after my dad’s passing ). I wanted to write about my dad, but wasn’t sure how to do it. I didn’t want it to be sappy, and I wanted to be authentic. When a friend of mine was going through something similar with her father, she asked for advice on how to talk to her daughters. I began to realize that it was a difficult topic, indeed, and something I wanted (and needed) to write about.
LTYM: If you could write anywhere, where would you write?
Tiffany: I would love to have a writing retreat at the beach. It would be incredible to feel the sand in my toes, the sun on my face and the cool breeze blowing in my hair as I wrote my novel. Not a care in the world… Just me, my pen and paper and the sounds of the waves crashing. Perhaps that is why one of my favorite books is Anne Morrow Lindbergh’s book, A Gift From the Sea.
LTYM: What do you wish most for your children?
Tiffany: Truthfully, as trite as it sounds, I want my children to be happy. I want them to be safe and comfortable and true to themselves. I want them to celebrate who they are and their strengths on a daily basis. I want my children to have a passion for learning and a strong sense of empathy towards other people. I want them to hug me often and remember that their mother and father will always be there for them, no matter what.
LTYM: Thanks Tiffany!
