So Much Heart…

by Kate on April 2, 2012

Last Wednesday, the LTYM DC cast had our first group read through!

The cast! Missing: Cindy Green who was taking the picture (the plight of professional photographers…they’re never in the picture). We will replace with a FULL cast picture shortly…

The fact that we were able to get 14 busy women together that evening was a feat in and of itself (we literally scheduled for the ONLY day in March that everyone had availability). But the actual rehearsal was nothing short of spectacular. To hear each story, one after another took my breath away. If I had any doubts before (and I didn’t), I can now honestly proclaim that this will be one hell of a show.

I won’t say too much more about that since I would hate to give anything away – but tears of sadness and laughter were equally shed. It would be impossible to hear this cast’s stories and underestimate the incredible strength of women – and mothers.

We got off to a phenomal start with a veritable FEAST sent to us by Naked Pizza DC.

I was already familiar with Naked Pizza since one is right around the corner from me in Reston. While I had enjoyed their fabulous pizza before, I knew that most of the cast hadn’t. So I had the honor of introducing them to this delicious and HEALTHY (chemical free!) “fast food.”

Sadly – it was a dismal failure.

KIDDING! Of course everyone loved it. The favorites of the night were the “Sonoran” (Onion, Chicken, Fire-Roasted Red Pepper, Mushroom) and the “Greenhouse” (Onion, Tomato, Bell Pepper, Black Olive, Mushroom). But really, everything was fantastic. And they gave us way too much food, so we were able to send a lot of people home with some leftovers to share with their families.

A huge thank you to Naked Pizza DC! They really brought the party to this rehearsal.

But then it was down to business.

Remember those bumper stickers we had made? So handy for so many things…

We spent almost two hours reading to each other and marveling at how much love, loss and hope filled the room.

It was almost like being on one of my old Catholic high school retreats…minus the Rice Krispie squares and prayers, that is. I guess what I mean to say is that once we leave childhood behind, we don’t have many opportunities to gather a group of almost-strangers together and feel like we’re part of something bigger. We do this at work…places of worship…family dinners… But how often do you sit next to someone you barely know and feel like you are being handed a piece of their heart?

That’s what it was like for me – like each woman there handed me a piece of her heart.

And if you can be there with us on May 6, be ready to accept the same.

And bring tissues.

And DON’T forget to buy your ticket! Space is limited and we can’t guarantee that there will be seats available on the day of the show.

Also, we have just TWO more days left until the drawing for signed copies of local mom and writer, Scary Mommy’s new book! Everyone who has purchased a ticket by April 4 will be entered to win one of two copies.

We hope to see you there!

Next up on the LTYM DC blog: Meet each of our cast members! Stay tuned…
