Cast Spotlight on Kim Cavill

by Tracey on April 25, 2017

Our cast members are complex, intelligent, and witty people. You simply have to hear them to believe us. We asked 4 questions to give you a feel for the innermost workings of their minds, and the variety of answers has been one of the highlights of this year’s process. We hope you enjoy them as much as we do!

1. If you could meet any person in history (living or dead, real or fictional) who would it be and why?

I’d love to meet J. K. Rowling to ask her why the hell her website says my patronus is a Salmon.

2. Have you ever been on stage before? How do you feel about going on stage for the LTYM show, knowing you’re also reading your own words?

I’ve been on stage many times before. Though I am nervous, I’m also very excited to share my own writing with the audience. I feel very lucky.

3. Unrelated to your essay, do you have a motherhood story to share?

We’d just moved into a new neighborhood and it was a beautiful summer day. My children were both going through that stage that all young children go through were they flat out refuse to wear clothes. I had just gotten out of the shower and was drying off, when I heard a loud BANG. I ran out of the bathroom, worried about my kids, when I saw that my dog had accidentally run right through a screen door, into the backyard. There was a moment where my dog and I looked at each other, each wanting the other to freeze. Instead, our dog took advantage of her freedom and ran like hell. I hurriedly wrapped a towel around me and chased her around three different backyards, followed by two naked, gleeful children who thought this was all a fun game of tag. I kept shouting, “GODDAMNIT YOU STUPID DOG, GET YOUR ARSE INSIDE!” and she ignored me, eventually running into the street out the front of our house. So, my new neighbors watched me, naked except for a towel, chasing my sprinting dog down the road, swearing up a storm, and followed by two naked children shouting, “YAY MOMMY I LOVE THIS GAME.”

4. If you could relive one day over again, what would you choose and why?

I would never do such a thing. Every day is too much of a gift. Even the shitty ones.

Thank you, Kim!
