Local Sponsor Spotlight: Chicago Parent!

by Melisa on April 24, 2017

One of the great things about LISTEN TO YOUR MOTHER, whether you’re in the cast or in the audience, is finding out that you’re not alone. There is validation in speaking your truth or hearing someone’s story because even though the details don’t always match, there is a sense of comfort when you find out that maybe we all have a little more in common than we originally thought.

Returning local sponsor Chicago Parent magazine has had a similar effect on moms and dads in Chicago for more than 25 years. This monthly publication contains articles and essays that are meant to inform, educate, and inspire local parents. It is the best resource for fun in Chicago. Did I mention it’s free? You can find issues all over the city and suburbs and if you’re unsure where to look, enter your zip code here to find the pick-up location nearest to you.

By the way, keep your eyes peeled for Chicago Parent’s Going Places (special family guides that are all fun-focused), published in Spring, Summer, and Fall, the twice-annual Chicago Special Parent (an empowerment guide for parents of children with special needs), and Hey Baby (a guide for new and expectant parents), which comes out twice annually as well.

The talent that the folks at Chicago Parent have for bringing families out for fun extends to their own twice-annual Playdates, and they have one coming up this weekend!

Chicago Parent Spring Playdate

Bring the family to the Athletico Center (1900 Old Willow Road, Northbrook) this Sunday, April 30 from 10am-3pm for a day full of play (see what I did there?). Lots of local companies will have exhibits–many of them interactive–and there’s a full entertainment schedule too (including ComedySportz!).

Advance tickets are $4 for kids under 2, $8 for kids 3-15, free for parents and kids under 1. Prices increase April 29. Get tickets at chicagoparent.com/playdate.

This year’s Playdate charity partner is Cradles to Crayons. Families who donate brand new socks, underwear and PJs at the Playdate will be entered to win a big prize pack at the event. (Sizes can range from newborn to adult medium.)

I attended the Playdate last spring to see what it was all about and I could not get over all of the activity. Kids were running around everywhere (because they were supposed to be all over the place!) and there were games and little rides and all kinds of other activities everywhere I turned. It was a big moment when Elsa and Anna from “Frozen” appeared on the scene, too. Tracey is going to attend the Playdate this year and I can’t wait to hear about her experience. If you take your family, look for her and say hi!
