Tracey and I are very grateful for our sponsors: without them, we wouldn’t be able to produce this show! One of our local sponsors this year is Aquarium Salon at 3508 Lincoln Avenue in Chicago.
Founded by Venezuelan architect Ana Lorena Acosta, Aquarium Salon definitely fulfills her mission: to “combine the beauty and style of the architectural world with the hip and trendy styling community of Chicago”. The salon has a contemporary design with a bright orange and blue color scheme that–and I can personally vouch for this–feels like a real escape from the outside world. When I visited a couple of weeks ago, I didn’t want to leave.
I spent some time talking with Ana Lorena and one of her Senior Stylists/Colorists (Patty, who is the Lead Educator) about the salon, its history, and its future. Having written magazine articles for salon industry magazines for years and years, I am always fascinated with how small salons in particular are run. I truly enjoy hearing about the staff dynamic, their specialties, their client philosophies, and all kinds of other things that most people don’t ever think about. I enjoyed my conversation with Ana Lorena and Patty so very much: they are passionate about everything: working as a team, helping junior stylists to grow into great senior stylists, continually educating their staff, and most importantly, giving their clients a superior experience from the time they enter the salon until the moment they leave. (Fun Fact: I also learned that the hair color brand they use, Keune, is great for clients who have gone through cancer treatments; it’s gentle on the hair and actually puts back some of the elements that are removed from the hair as a side effect of those treatments. I thought that was great information considering the fact that Recovery On Water will receive 10% of our ticket proceeds this year.)
The team at Aquarium Salon is committed to making their clients look and feel their very best. Services include cuts and styles, color, extensions, bridal, and conditioning and smoothing treatments. They serve children, too!
I love these recent pictures from their Facebook page (used with permission). The updo and that ombre color? Gorgeous.
Here’s something really cool: if you come to LISTEN TO YOUR MOTHER CHICAGO on May 4 at 2:00 (tickets on sale now! Click here!) and then bring your ticket stub to Aquarium Salon before the end of July, you’ll get $20 off of your first service as a new client.
Thank you SO much for your support, Aquarium Salon! We couldn’t do it without you!
