The Process isn’t Painless

by Tracey on February 3, 2014

The process of Listen To Your Mother is one that Melisa and I adore, we really do. But we would be lying if we were to say that it’s just one big party, free of emotional baggage. The joy of the show is that we assist local writers in sharing their beautiful stories with a live audience and then, the internet one via YouTube. The pain of the show is knowing that, in order to showcase a few, many will have to be turned away. For some, it’s not a big deal to be told “no”, and has little effect on their lives. For others, it is highly personal and painful to receive  the “no” email. Melisa and I want to be clear that we value the time and heart that you dedicated to each word and phrase. When we say that we wish we could cast 3 or 4 shows, we truly mean it.

Every published author or artist of any medium will attest to the fact that rejection is a part of the climb towards “success.” Every athlete knows that the only way to build strength is to methodically tear apart their muscles; each time, with just a little more mass than before. Every mother knows that her baby must fall and fall and FALL before he can learn the seemingly impossible talent of walking across the floor.

Just because we know that getting knocked down is an integral part of life’s learning process, doesn’t mean that it doesn’t hurt. And while not all of the essays that were submitted for consideration for this year’s show can be auditioned or cast, they were ALL appreciated. Thank you!

If I had money or sponsors, I’d have a LTYM every month. I believe in the importance of finding your voice that much.

Don’t forget energy. We’d need enough energy. But yes, co-sign! xo
