Call For Submissions: LISTEN TO YOUR MOTHER CHICAGO 2014!

by Melisa on January 13, 2014

Today is the Day! We are ready for your stories!

If you would like to submit a piece about motherhood to be considered for the 2014 Chicago LISTEN TO YOUR MOTHER show, please follow the guidelines below.

1. In the email subject line, include Title and Author name.
2. Please attach the written piece as a Word document with your name and and essay title on the first page.
3. Each piece must be YOUR original work, revolving around any aspect of “motherhood” and must be no more than approximately 5 minutes long when read aloud.
4. Our email address is:
5. Confirmation of receipt emails will be sent out so that you do not need to worry.

We will be taking submissions until 11:59 p.m. on January 29. At that time, we will be crying and laughing and rejoicing over the words you have so beautifully crafted and deciding which ones we feel will be most appropriate to hear in this year’s auditions. We will let everyone know via email on or before February 3 if they have been selected for an audition. Dates for auditions are February 15 and 16. You might want to pencil that on your calendar, Just In Case!!

Rehearsal dates are set for Sunday, March 16 from 2:00-4:30 p.m. and Saturday, April 12, 10:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. As we only have 2 rehearsals for the show, it is imperative that you are available for both rehearsals.

All readings from our show will be showcased on the LTYM You Tube channel. For inspiration, you can watch the Chicago videos from 2012 and 2013.

By the way, we like to publicize the show as PG-13 due to some mature topics. Anything with strong language may be edited for a wide audience: we want to put together a show that you can watch with your mom and grandma! And sisters! And husbands! And teens! You get the idea. If you have any other questions regarding our requirements, you can reference our most recent posts or email us at

Please note that the 2014 show will be held in Chicago on Sunday, May 4, 2014, and a percentage of ticket proceeds will benefit Recovery On Water (ROW), a support service and exercise program for women who are currently in treatment or have been through treatment for breast cancer.. (Cast members will be required to be available from approximately 11:00 – 4:00). Be sure your calendar is open that day!!

Hi Lea!
