We Are Family

by admin on April 22, 2013

It’s a well-known fact that Melisa and I get along really well. We have found a partnership that works like a well-oiled machine. She is the Monica to my Phoebe. We compliment each other’s strengths and lift each other up when one of us is doubting herself. Plus? We really like to laugh together… A LOT.

Our cast this year is full of love and wit and charm as well. I don’t know what it is, but somehow we managed to select 15 AMAZING women to perform alongside us during this year’s show. Though the essays range from hysterical to heart-wrenching, the rehearsal and time spent together as a group is full of so much gut-clenching laughter that I do believe it should count as “Ab work.”

ltym2013 rehearsal5On an aside, I think the award for “Best Reactions” should go to Shannon Duffy. Despite having heard these pieces before, she never held back her outright delight when the humor was high. ltym2013 rehearsal8And when the emotions would swing to the very serious side that often accompanies Motherhood? Our new LTYM family was always ready to listen, encourage and support each other through these stories that are so precious to our hearts…ltym2013 rehearsal4And that’s what this show does, to be honest. It creates a family. A family of writers. A family of listeners. A family that isn’t perfect and isn’t traditional, but is a Family, nonetheless.ltym2013 rehearsal7We invite you to join our LTYM family as we share our stories on stage on May 5th. We are opening our hearts up and inviting you to become a PART of our family on this special day. Afterwards, once your hearts and minds have been nourished, we hope you’ll continue the festive spirit of Family and Motherhood at the Diag Bar & Grill, located just 2 blocks  South of the Athenaeum Theatre.  If you bring your Listen To Your Mother ticket stub to the Diag Bar & Grill after the show on May 5th, you will not only sit with everyone else in a reserved space, but you will receive 20% off of your food orders which makes this event not only enjoyable but also affordable! diag

The Diag Bar & Grill offers a truly wide variety of cuisine at affordable rates, all within a comfortable atmosphere. It’s the perfect way to wrap up a celebration of motherhood: surrounded by mothers! Melisa and I and the entire cast are anxious to share the entire night with you all. Please join us at the show AND dinner afterwards: we know you’re going to love the experience!

You can find more information on our About Show page or go directly to the Athenaeum to order your tickets today.

Less than 2 weeks left!! Don’t wait till it’s too late!

What a great idea! I’m so bummed that family issues prevent me from coming this year. Yiou and Melisa are a great tea. Congratulations on another successful year!

Next year Kim! Plus, a bar mitzvah is kind of a big deal, you know? 🙂 Hope it goes well for your son.

I love that picture of the two of you! You and Melisa have been such a source of wisdom and encouragement for Alexandra and I. We are so grateful. You two epitomize what LTYM is all about. xoxo, Jen
