Drumroll, Please! Announcing LTYM Chicago’s 2013 Venue!

by admin on January 28, 2013

No, seriously. Drumroll. At least in your head.

Tracey and I are OVER THE MOON EXCITED to make this announcement.

Last year, it was love at first sight with our venue, The Victory Gardens Biograph.

Seeing the marquee for the first time caused it to get all real up in here. It’s a gorgeous theater, and feels really intimate even though it has 300 seats in the audience. We sold that place out in just over a week (yep, still proud!), and there were so many people who missed out on the wonderful stories that were told on the evening of May 6th. We knew that as much as we loved the Biograph, we needed to find a bigger venue for the 2013 show.

We had one worry: could true love strike twice?

I’m happy to report, my friends, that indeed it can.

Tracey and I are pleased to announce that Chicago’s 2013 LISTEN TO YOUR MOTHER show will be held at…

The Athenaeum Theatre!

The Athenaeum is the oldest continuously operating off-Loop theater in Chicago. It’s part of the campus of St. Alphonsus Catholic Church, and houses five performance spaces. The vibe? Positively MAGICAL.

The 2013 cast of LISTEN TO YOUR MOTHER will read on the main stage, and we have room for nine hundred and fifty audience members. Yes, you read that correctly: 950 audience members. (Go big or go home, you know?) We’re not sure if we’ll sell out this year, but we are definitely going to try our best.

Tracey and I were so certain that this would be our venue when we toured it for the first time in August, that we had our awesome tour guide and venue contact Allan take our picture onstage:

Besides its beauty, the best thing about The Athenaeum is that, even with such a huge audience capacity, it still feels intimate. When our cast breathes life into their stories on the afternoon of May 5th, they will feel like they’re getting a big hug. We can’t wait to take it all in!

Here is the theater from the outside:

The spacious lobby has plenty of room for mingling with other audience members before the show:

So there you have it. Mark your calendars for Sunday, May 5th at 2:00 p.m., The Athenaeum Theatre in Chicago. Tickets will go on sale towards the end of February.

Tracey and I are rubbing our hands together in anticipation. We can’t wait!

I have always loved that word – Athenaeum. It just rolls off the tongue. sort of. Once you get your tongue out of the way, after pronouncing the first syllable.

It’s BEAUTIFUL…and that balcony section reminds me of The Muppets. Nobody ever had a better theatre than The Muppets.

Until now.

Totally looks like The Muppets! Is there where you two will be sitting Tracey and Melisa?! But seriously, it looks awesome! What a great choice for the show this year.

Ann January 28, 2013 at 1:12 pm

Oh my. WELL DONE. (and Marianne’s Muppet comment made my heart swell).

Melisa January 28, 2013 at 2:14 pm

I am so excited!!! And we looked remarkably cute for that hot day. Especially considering the fact that we weren’t planning on taking photos. Gosh, we’re attractive.

Melisa January 28, 2013 at 2:14 pm

We have self esteem to spare, don’t we?! haha

Momo Fali January 28, 2013 at 2:51 pm
