Cast Spotlight on Jen Hajer

by admin on May 4, 2012

Last but not least, we are happy to introduce Jen Hajer, the funny chick who will make you guffaw and snort. She’s a riot, but she’s also truly genuine. Jen, thanks for auditioning, despite the nerves!

Tell us about your family. How many kids? Spouse or partner? Single?

I met my husband when I was 19 and didn’t have children until I was 30. Someone should have told me that trying to color my grey hair and running after pantless kids at the same time is exhausting. I have 2 sons but it often feels like more.

Tell us about living in your Chicagoland neighborhood. Where do you live and what do you love about it?

I live in the western suburbs of Chicago.  It is a very family friendly town.  I love that within 15 minutes I have an arboretum, a children’s museum, and a zoo to take my kids. The most important part is that I also live 15 minutes from 4 Target stores. I can get a cute cardigan AND a quick no dishes to do dinner in less than an hour.  Thank you Target.

What is the one thing that really surprised you about being a parent?

I can’t believe the amount of patience I now have.  I could wait for days while you put on your shoes.  I can wait for hours while you try and find your library books.  Heck.  I’ll just take a nap now while I wait…

What is the biggest reward you’ve found thus far?

Before I had children I questioned purpose a lot.  Now?  That’s been answered as I wipe faces of marshmallow fluff and train my kids to be the best super ninjas that they can be.

What wisdom would you pass onto a woman who is entering motherhood for the
first time?

No one is perfect at raising children.  Your children.  Your way.

You wrote a beautiful and touching piece for LTYM. (Thank you!) What else and where else do you write?

I write on two of my own sites. TheMarthaProject.com and giftedgivings.blogspot.com.  I love that I have this timeline of our lives.  Some days good, some days not as good, all days loved. Writing allows me to express my thoughts and use more words than “What do you want to eat- Again.”  Sometimes being a mom can be isolating but through writing, I know that I’ve had at least one conversation today.

Even if it was with myself.

See? Genuine and Funny, all at the same time. Jen, you’re going to captivate the audience. I promise.

I love this woman so much that I am tempted on a minute by minute basis to drive and see her, and I hate driving far away places, by myself, in the dark.

I am crazy about her. All sides of her.

The inappropriate, as well as the glistening freshly washed one.
