Spotlight on our local sponsor: Fannie May

by admin on April 25, 2012

If you grew up in or around Chicago, you know that there are some things that we feel as though we “own”: deep dish pizza, measuring distance in the time it will take you to get there, having the most beautiful city in the US (it’s true), and Fannie May Candies.

I know that Fannie May is no longer strictly “local“. It has definitely branched out into the Midwest, and is spreading throughout the States, especially now that The Internet has connected brands and consumers virtually. But this Chicago-suburbs chick (born and raised!) will adamantly declare that no matter HOW big Fannie May becomes, we will always know that it was OURS first!

I can vividly remember being a little girl in braids, and racing to my basket on Easter morning; hoping with all hope that my bunny and eggs weren’t some knock-off brand, but the REAL DEAL. The GOOD stuff. The chocolate with that familiar cursive font that meant our bunny had splurged a tiny bit for the smoothest chocolate we’d ever had. And I always knew that my dad really loved us when Valentine’s Day meant that each girl received her own small red heart of Fannie May creams alongside our Hallmark cards. To this day, my all-time favorite candy in THE WORLD are the raspberry creams by Fannie May. Truly. Every birthday, Valentine’s Day and Mother’s Day I hope with all my heart that my husband will remember my favorite. Every holiday, I am pleasantly surprised by how well he knows me.

It seemed to be a natural fit to have Fannie May as a sponsor for Listen To Your Mother in Chicago. Not only are they a locally started brand of a Chicago favorite, but they sell what every mother craves: Chocolate.

Chocolate creams.

Mint Melt-aways.

Chocolate covered cherries…

Oh my word. I’m salivating.

Their classics are delicious, to be sure, but have you heard about their newest line, The Artisan? Holy, holy, moly… Handcrafted, gourmet flavors with the smoothest of creams and chocolates that only Fannie May can deliver. I was lucky enough to attend an event where an endless supply of Artisan chocolates were available. “Take as many as you like! Tell us which is your favorite!” they said. I do believe that I was knocked mute for a moment. And then I do believe I couldn’t stop stuttering about “…how AWEsome they are and how Fannie May is my absolute FAVORITE chocolate in the world and OH MY GOD these are delicious!!” all while delicately devouring the creams and slowly dying from the elegant flavors and textures. To be honest, I loved all of the Artisan flavors. I sampled the Double Shot Espresso, Vanilla Cake, 64% Dark Chocolate, and the Bourbon Vanilla and all were absolutely divine but when I tried the Lemonade Artisan candy? I positively stopped in my tracks. I couldn’t believe that lemon and white chocolate could blend together into something so perfect, but it’s true. They are Perfect. I ADORE THE LEMONADES. (More than the raspberry creams? Hmmm… I don’t know, but  I would like to be involved in that taste test…).

Disclaimer: This post is most definitely a sponsored post as Fannie May is our top local sponsor, but these opinions are quite obviously my own. If you have anyone that is in need of a present this Mother’s Day, I highly, HIGHLY suggest that you consider the Artisan line from Fannie May. I promise you: They won’t disappoint!

Right on! My most vivid Fannie May memory is from high school when I fell asleep with a mint melt-away in my mouth. I woke up to its sweet, irresistible aroma — encased in my nostrils. I spent the whole day trying to blow chocolate out of my nose. Classy~

Thank you Fannie Mae! My heart will always stay true to peppermint ice. I’m retro like that.
