Announcing Our Cause: Bright Pink!

by admin on January 19, 2012

The Chicago mom-blogging community is pretty tight. Over the past few years many of us have gotten to know each other better through the attendance of events and meetups and, similar to other blogger clusters based in and around a major metropolitan area, we have taken on a family-like persona in certain ways.

Last year, one of our family members received some pretty devastating news. Brandie, then thirty-one years old and the mother of three, was diagnosed with breast cancer. We have watched Brandie deal with the unexpected news with grace, humor, and honesty over the past nine months on her blog “A Journey of 1000 Stitches Begins With Just One”. With the support of family (especially her husband Eric, her mom, and her kids) and friends, Brandie went through an aggressive treatment plan that included chemotherapy and radiation (which she recently finished!), and she is getting better.

When Tracey and I got the news that our application to bring LISTEN TO YOUR MOTHER to Chicago was approved, it was a no-brainer for us when it came time to choose the charity that will receive ten percent of our ticket sales. We immediately chose Bright Pink, in honor of Brandie.

From their website, because we can’t describe their mission better than they can:
Bright Pink is Chicago-based and the only national non-profit organization with an exclusive focus on the prevention and early detection of breast and ovarian cancer in young women aged 18-45.

Bright Pink provides education and support to young women, empowering them to be proactive advocates for the breast and ovarian health. We arm young women with knowledge, options and a great attitude, and offer companionship and empathy during their journey. We empower them to take control of their breast and ovarian health and, in turn, grant them the freedom and peace of mind to live a beautiful and fulfilling life.

We are absolutely thrilled to work with the great folks at Bright Pink. If you want to learn more about all they do, visit their website by clicking here.
