Local Sponsor Spotlight: Children’s Eye Specialists

by Angie Mizzell on April 28, 2014

children_s_eye_specialists_logoMy eight-year-old son has been wearing glasses since he was two. He’s farsighted, and he also has a condition called Strabismus. When he focuses on things up close, his weaker eye turns inward. Over the years, he’s worn eye patches and has had two surgeries to manage it.

But lately, when he’s not wearing glasses (like at the beach or pool) we’ve noticed he can go long periods of time without his eyes crossing at all. He’s doing great, and we owe a lot of that to Children’s Eye Specialists and Dr. Ronald Teed. Dr. Teed is a pediatric ophalmologist and has cared for my son since the beginning.

Children’s Eye Specialists is the first practice in the Lowcountry devoted solely to pediatric ophthalmology and adult strabismus. They offer the most thoughtful and skillful medical and surgical care for all pediatric eye conditions and adult eye muscle disorders. They are the only clinic in the area where all examination lanes are 20 feet long to ensure the most accurate measurements of eye alignment and visual acuity.

Children’s Eye Specialists was designed from the start to be patient-centered and comfortable. The clinic is child-friendly, with toys and video screens in each room. All three of my children love to go see Dr. Teed (even though the younger two don’t need glasses and don’t have an eye condition like their big brother).

Children’s Eye Specialists is committed to community involvement and volunteer work. Dr. Teed provides school vision screenings through the Association for the Blind and Visually Impaired. They are proud supporters of the Lowcountry Food Bank, and serve as sponsors at their annual Chef’s Feast in Charleston and Farmer’s Table in Beaufort.
