Alisa C CroppedListen to Your Mother is all about stories. Our Local Megaphone Sponsor, Alisa Cunningham, has her own story about how she came to work in Real Estate and it all comes back to her mother.

After several miscarriages, Jeanne Cunningham made the decision to adopt a child. She and her husband, Leo, were living in an apartment in Vancouver, BC when the adoption agency told them that they would need a house before they could bring home a baby. Leo wasn’t 100% sold on the idea of adoption, but Jeanne secretly squirreled away the money for a down payment on a house. Once they were able to buy that first home, they adopted their first daughter, Andrea. Several years later, the family lost their home through eminent domain as the Trans-Canada Highway cut through Vancouver. But Jeanne was determined to raise her children in a house and she was plotting the adoption of another baby. She again scrimped and saved every possible penny until the family could purchase another home. Shortly thereafter they adopted their second child, Alisa.

At last count, Alisa Cunningham figures she has moved over fifty times in her life. When she found her way to a career in Real Estate in 2005, it became clear to her just how important her own mother’s dream of home ownership was. She is grateful to play a role in making her client’s dreams of owning a home a reality.

For Alisa, being a Realtor is not about “the deal.” It is about a very important transition in the lives of her clients. “They are buying the place where holidays will be celebrated and where babies will grow up. If they are selling, it is where that all happened, and there is a deep emotional connection.”

She was living and working in Burbank for several years before she purchased her first home in 2011. Recently, she fulfilled a dream when she bought a home in Burbank’s Rancho neighborhood. She feels she has proven the Zig Ziglar adage true that “You can get everything in life you want if you will just help enough other people get what they want.”

For over a decade she has been thankful to do what she does. “In helping people buy or sell their home, I am part of the family for a period of time, helping them achieve their end goal.” And she has heard so many stories over the years, stories that often remind her of her mother. When it comes to the importance of house and home, the message her mom tried to convey was clear. Alisa is glad she listened.
