This Is What It Means To Be A Mother

by Stephanie on January 21, 2016

As a child given up for adoption, Tanya Bloch felt rejected, unwanted, and unloved when she thought of the word Mother — until she became one.  “I had to explore this word Mother — what it means to me, what it will mean for my daughter.” What does it really mean to be a mother? At LTYM: San Francisco‘s 2015 show, Tanya shared how she defines motherhood through sacrifice and facing her own history to make a path for new life. “If we do not confront our pasts, if we do not heal old wounds, and if we do not learn, we are incapable of growing.”

This is beautiful and as a fellow adoptee and Mother I so appreciate your honesty. You describe the complexities of the adoptee’s emotions so well.
