What We Remember

“My two teen girls have a kind of adolescent memory loss, where they seem to recall only the worst parenting moments of their childhood.” With two teenagers and a mother with Alzheimer’s, Ann Wertz Garvin marvels about her life amidst a spectrum of memories. “If I’m honest I can’t decide which is worst: being forgotten altogether or being remembered in infamy.”

Maybe we tend to recall the bad things that happen in life because all the good things have become a part of us, leaving the bad to “float forever on the top” but “never finding true purchase in life histories.”
