Announcing Our 2017 Local Cause!!

by meghanmatt on January 12, 2017

Every year each LISTEN TO YOUR MOTHER show chooses a cause and donates at least 10% of ticket proceeds to them. Since the first show in Madison in 2010, we have raised over $100,000 for charities serving women and children all over North America. Over the past two years the Baton Rouge show has been thrilled to collect close to $1500 total for previous show causes, Hope House (Trafficking Hope) and The Emerge Center.

This year we are overjoyed to announce Iris Domestic Violence Center as our local show cause.  In the period between September 2015- August 2016, there were 55 domestic violence fatalities in the state of Louisiana. Baton Rouge has an invaluable resource in Iris and all of us at LTYM are so very thankful for the great work they do in our community.

IRIS-logo-vectorIris Domestic Violence Center has been operating in south Louisiana for over thirty years. They serve a seven parish region- East and West Baton Rouge, East and West Feliciana, Iberville, Pointe Coupee, and Ascension- with a mission of protecting and empowering survivors of domestic violence, preventing relationship violence, and promoting justice for victims of domestic violence, their children, and our communities.  Iris uses a trauma-informed and survivor centered approach in providing a number of support services to survivors and their children. Through Iris, survivors have access to a 24-hour crisis line, emergency shelter, case management and advocacy services, support groups, and legal representation when obtaining a protective order.

All services are free and confidential. Annually, Iris receives over 7,500 calls on the crisis line, houses more than 1,350 women and children in the emergency shelter, and helps survivors obtain upwards of 4,200 protective orders. In addition to direct services for survivors, Iris is committed to providing community education and professional training in an effort to raise awareness of domestic violence and equip community members to recognize and respond to domestic violence appropriately.

If you are a survivor in need of services, please call the crisis line locally at (225) 389-3001 or statewide toll free at 1-800-541-9706. For more information on all the incredible ways Iris serves our community, check out their website at stopdv.org.
