Listen to Your Mother Austin 2017 Cause SAFE

Every year, Listen To Your Mother gives back to the communities that host shows by donating to a local non-profit. This year, 30 cities across the country are donating 10% of their shows’ proceeds to various causes, and Austin is proud to be supporting SafePlace, a program of SAFE (Stop Abuse For Everyone) for the second year.

As you can tell by the photo below, I’m a huge fan of SafePlace. We donate all of our gently used clothes, toys, books and housewares there. The kids even get excited about clearing out their unused toys when they know how much joy it will bring to another child.  Click here to see the wishlist of the most needed items at SafePlace and the Austin Children’s Shelter.

The SAFE Alliance utilizes the SafePlace campus to provide housing, healing, and support for individuals and families affected by domestic violence, and sexual assault and exploitation through prevention and intervention services.  The SafePlace campus provides safety for individuals and families affected by sexual and domestic violence; helps victims in their healing so they can move beyond being defined by the crimes committed against them, and become Survivors; promotes safe and healthy relationships for the prevention of sexual and domestic violence; and works with others to create change in attitudes, behaviors and policies that perpetuate the acceptance of, and impact our understanding and responses to, sexual and domestic violence.

Co-producer Kristin Shaw is a domestic abuse survivor, and SafePlace is an organization close to her heart.  We’re also honored to have Laurie Pharr, who works at SafePlace, in our Listen to Your Mother cast this year.  You won’t want to miss her amazing story of courage in escaping an abusive relationship.

Listen To Your Mother Austin’s goal is to give this amazing non-profit financial and moral support, but to also gain community recognition and therefore support for their ongoing efforts to help women and families. Ten percent of our net proceeds will be donated to SafePlace after the show date.

Austin Children’s Shelter and SafePlace recently merged into The SAFE Alliance, and you can read more about the merger here.

Of course, another way you can help support SafePlace is to buy a ticket to our Listen To Your Mother show, taking place that night at the AT&T Center!

Thank you, SafePlace, for all of the wonderful services you provide for families in Austin.
