The 2014 Listen To Your Mother Show Season is about to begin! And we’ve got changes to announce!

by heather on November 26, 2013

After three very successful, inspiring, fun, and memorable shows, the time has come for the directing and producing of the show to change hands. Wendi and Liz have been such an asset to this endeavor and have created something magical in leading up Austin’s Listen To Your Mother show. They will be greatly missed, by alumni and fans alike, but because they’re the kind and creative souls that they are, they promise to continue to support the show from afar as they move on to other endeavors. This means the show was either going to cease existing in Austin, or a new team was to be put in place.

That’s when I raised my hand, having just moved to Austin this past June, after co-directing Listen To Your Mother Minneapolis! My name is Heather King and I’m so excited to be a part of the LTYM from Minnesota to Texas! I’m moving on in as your new director and I’m bringing with me the most fantastic co-producing team imaginable.

Please welcome with me, Kristin Shaw and Leigh Ann Torres!

KRISTIN SHAW is a freelancer by day, writer by night, a full-time wife of an Austin native, and mother of a mini-Texan. Her favorite things are family, 80s hair bands, classic cars, sports, Italy, and dessert; not necessarily in that order. She’s proud to be a co-producer of the 2014 Listen to Your Mother show in Austin.  You can reach her via Twitter (@AustinKVS), her blog, Two Cannoli, or on The Huffington Post, where she is a featured blogger.  Kristin is a co-event manager of the Gorgeous Millie Touch-a-Truck, which raised over $47,000 for the Austin Children’s Shelter in 2013, and has worked in the corporate world for 20 years in technology, telecommunications, and aviation.

Leigh Ann Torres is a freelance writer, blogger and mother of three living in Austin, TX. After realizing baby books really weren’t her thing, she started writing about her life with preemie twins and massive sleep deprivation and hasn’t stopped since. Her work has been featured on BlogHer and in Multiplicity Magazine, and she appeared in the 2012 production of Listen to Your Mother Austin. When she’s not spending endless amounts of energy of crafting the perfect Facebook status update, you can find her at Free Fun in AustinallParenting, and on her personal site, Genie in a Blog, where she documents the good, the bad, and the ridiculous of life with twins plus one.

Oh and a little bit about me?

I was born and raised in Minnesota. (The accent speaks for itself.) I have three kids–ages 8, 6, and 2. We moved to Austin for my husband’s work and have loved adventuring around the city and getting to know y’all and what you love. We love it too!  As I mentioned, I co-directed the Listen To Your Mother show Twin Cities last year and I’m also a freelance writer, a speaker, and a co-manager to the BlogHer Conference’s Serenity Suite each summer. In a former life I was a social worker, working with people with mental illness. This lasted for eight years, until my first son was born, at which time I chose to stay at home, never guessing this decision would boost my somewhat dormant creative spirit, leading me to begin writing, which has led to my story and writing being covered by Redbook Magazine, The NBC Nightly News with Diane Sawyer, MN Parenting Magazine, BlogHer, Mamalode, Mamapedia,, Owning Pink and many more. My personal blog is The Extraordinary Ordinary.
