In just over two weeks approximately 4500 bloggers will attend BlogHer 2012 in New York City, and Listen To Your Mother cannot WAIT for the 2nd Open Mic Salon! The twitterverse is buzzing with questions, so to answer a few:
1. The Open Mic Salon is open to all registered BlogHer attendees. You do not need any party tickets, nor any advanced party sign-up. Just show up!
2. LTYM does not accept submissions to read in advance of the event. When you arrive you may fill out a form and put it in one of three bins: Life, Humor, or Rants and I’ll alternate drawing names randomly from each bin to select readers during the event.
3. You can read whatever post you like and it does not need to be remotely motherhood related!
4. Please leave your question in the comments if I didn’t address it here.
Finally, in accordance with our mission, every LTYM event selects a non-profit beneficiary that supports women and families in need. The Open Mic 2012 cause is one very close to LTYM’s heart. Another organization born of blogging that gives voice to vitally important personal narratives (also, I serve on the Board of Directors), LTYM proudly names Violence Unsilenced as our cause.
Please look for the donation box at the Open Mic Salon, and consider donating a few of your dollars to help sustain VU’s operations and growth.
“Violence UnSilenced is a website committed to giving survivors of domestic violence, sexual abuse, and sexual assault a voice. It was founded by Maggie Ginsberg-Schutz in 2009, and began non-profit status incorporation in October 2011. Violence UnSilenced is a grassroots movement born of the people, for the people.
Survivors submit their personal stories of abuse in their own words, and two are posted live on the site each week. Readers take an annual pledge to listen, and the intention for the comment section is a space, supportive safe.” –violenceunsilenced.com
