This weekend auditions take place in NW Indiana (Valparaiso) and Spokane. Having just listened to auditions in Madison, I wanted to give some words of advice to everyone auditioning:
Read from your heart. Read as authentically “you” as possible. LTYM is less about performing, and more about giving voice to your experience. We want you (even if it’s a wobbly-voiced, crying, hand-shaking you) not a caricature of you.
Make sure that Motherhood (or a mother) is the star of your piece.
Give yourself credit for auditioning. If the room filled with laughter and tears—that happened. That was genuine.
Remember: The stories choose each other. Every year, with every cast, the stories line themselves up and rearrange themselves and turn into a show. Each story will always depend on the others.
Thank you so much for sharing yours.
Best,
Ann Imig
National Director

I love this so much. Can not wait.
Steph
You are so kind and generous to be offering guidelines for someone who may have never audtioned for anything before, Ann. Like me.
How sad to have someone decide not to at least try, for fear they don't know how.
I am so beyond happy that I decided to audition, based on your encouragement, since I have never auditioned for anything in my life.
Listen To Your Mother has yanked my life off it's tracks, in a very, VERY wonderful way.
Thank you!!!
